Master Mécanique des Solides, Thématique Durabilité des Matériaux et des Structures (DMS)

Course Details

Objectives: The DMS theme Durability of Materials and Structures aims to train graduates of high scientific level, likely to take charge of the issues of sustainability of future installations and identification of the condition of existing installations in order to determine the residual lifespan. and to decide on possible reinforcements or to optimize a maintenance policy.
The aspects taking into account the hazard and analysis of the possible consequences of an accident will be particularly studied. The applications will concern engineering structures (bridges, tunnels, roads, etc.), structures for the production or storage of energy (dams, WWTPs, pressurized water nuclear reactors, offshore or onshore wind turbines, etc. .) and buildings.

At the end of the DMS Master, students will master the main models of aging of materials and structures, will be able to implement an approach to identify the state of an old structure, will know the main methods for taking into account of the hazard of materials, loadings or related to the ignorance of the precise knowledge of the state of a structure. They will be able to deduce a probability of accident or the lifespan of a structure and rationally pose a problem of optimizing a reinforcement or maintenance policy.

Intended for: Students holding an M1 SDI, or from mechanical engineering schools can apply.

Degree Level (EU) : 7 - (EQC level or equivalent)

Admission requirements: On file review.

Targeted careers : The opportunities for this training could be a thesis in a research laboratory or a position in a research center or an industrial or civil engineering design office supporting the study of the residual life of structures, reinforcements works or optimization of maintenance policies.
