Course Details

Objectives: The PhD is the highest internationally recognised university degree. It is a diploma at bac+8 level, the most advanced level of the "LMD" curriculum.

It is a three-year course of study through and for research, requiring a master's degree or a master's degree (engineering degree), and is sanctioned by a thesis defended before a jury.

Intended for: The candidate for enrolment in a thesis must hold a Master's degree or an engineering degree. It is also desirable that, as part of his/her Master's training, the candidate has had a first conclusive experience of research through one or more projects related to an open research and innovation problem.

Degree Level (EU) : 8 - (EQC level or equivalent)

Prerequisites: Master's degree

Admission requirements: Following selection by an ENAC host laboratory, the candidate must register with the doctoral school of the Université Fédérale de Toulouse Midi-Pyrénées associated with the research theme of the thesis subject (doctoral schools are the multi-university structures in charge of doctoral training for a certain spectrum of scientific themes). The ENAC laboratories are doctoral host teams for the following doctoral schools:

Toulouse Mathematics, Computer Science and Telecommunications doctoral school (MITT)
Systems doctoral school (EDSYS)
Graduate school of Electrical, Electronic and Telecommunications Engineering (GEET)
Toulouse School of Economics (TSE)
Aeronautics and Astronautics Graduate School (EDAA)

Acquired skills during the training : At ENAC, doctoral studies are carried out under the direction of an ENAC teacher-researcher (the thesis director), within an ENAC laboratory and are mostly part of research projects carried out with industrial and academic partners on an international scale.

In this respect, the doctorate is able to significantly strengthen both the international experience and the culture of industrial innovation of the doctoral student. The doctorate can be implemented in a wide variety of national or international academic and industrial contexts.

As an example, we can mention

CIFRE type theses carried out in close partnership with a company and leading to the integration of the doctoral student within the company proposing the thesis subject.
Theses carried out within the framework of European research projects such as H2020 and allowing the doctoral student to interact (in the form of seminars, research stays in academic or industrial partner teams) with a wide range of European academic or industrial partners.
Theses carried out in co-supervision with an international academic partner of ENAC (USA, Australia, Singapore, China...) and allowing the doctoral student to carry out his/her thesis by alternating stays within the two research teams and to obtain two theses (one delivered by the University of Toulouse and the second one by the foreign partner university)

Targeted careers : ENAC offers many opportunities for theses, in fields as varied as telecommunications, mathematics applied to air transport, interactive computing and HMI, air transport economics, drones, air operations, air traffic management etc.

Duration and terms: 3 years

Partnerships with national organisations: Federal University of Toulouse Midi-Pyrénées
