Course Details

Objectives: At Sorbonne University, the “Sensors, Instrumentation and Measurements” course is common to two Sorbonne University Master’s degrees (Fundamental Physics and Applications and Engineering Sciences). It is co-accredited with the Higher School of Physics and Chemistry of the city of Paris (ESPCI).

The second year of the Master of Science, Technology and Health in the Electronic, Electric and Automatic Energy (E3A) CIMES program offers students the opportunity to add color to their training, depending on available places.
Here is the general organization of lessons in the second year:
The teaching units Noise, conditioning, conversion and network (6 ECTS), Signal and image processing, statistics (6 ECTS) and Measurement methods (6 ECTS) as well as English (3 ECTS) are followed by all the students.

The UE Applications (6 ECTS) allows a first coloring with two areas (2 ECTS) to choose from:
Sensors for nuclear & space
Industrial sensors
Medical sensors

and a second coloring with a technique (2 ECTS) to choose from:
Modelization
Thin films & MEMS

Students can also choose a multidisciplinary project with other typical courses in the E3A and Automation & Robotics areas instead of Applications.

Finally, students wishing to focus more on space can follow an instrumental specialization as well as an introduction to project management offered by the OSAE type course instead of Applications and Workshops. Specific practical work is also offered outside of contract for 3 ECTS. These lessons require traveling to the premises of the Paris Observatory on the Meudon site.

Intended for: This specialty is aimed both at students whose previous background was in physics or electronics, as well as at engineering students.

Degree Level (EU) : 7 - (EQC level or equivalent)

Targeted careers : The CIMES specialty prepares students for integration into research and development departments in the industrial sector developing sensors, acquisition systems, computer simulations, instrumentation and data processing.
The job market is made up on the one hand of companies using sensor systems (automobile, aeronautics, space, metallurgy, industrial chemistry, nuclear, etc.) and on the other hand of those which develop sensors or systems sensors. These companies are spread across the entire national territory, in Europe and in the rest of the world (this multinational character is often specific to firms).
The CIMES specialty also promotes the integration of students into research laboratories, through access to doctoral studies in these fields.

Notes: Double degree agreements with ECE Paris and ENSEA

Partnerships with national organisations: Observatoire de Paris, ESIEE
